new jobs in Greenville 06-30-08

the Washington county board of supervisors held a special meeting to discuss a carpet manufacturing plant opening in Greenville. we've BEEN TALKING to them for several months. they seem TO HAVE most of their business lined up. THE former tenant, orbeck and Brantley, used to lease this Textron building, but they were overdue on their lease and never paid the county. the money did not come in, so we had to terminate their lease. we're now back in possession of that Textron building. the county and the carpet company made an unofficial verbal agreement this morning, but both sides say things are looking good. they estimate about 100 to 150 new jobs for Washington county. we really need to get these jobs in here, a 100 jobs means almost 12 million dollars of revenue into the local economy. just from the employees. we're looking at a million dollars in tax revenue. it will really help the vitality of Washington county to get this up and running which looks like we're about to do that. officials say they hope to get a written agreement in the next two to three weeks.
