THE AMOUNT OF WATER FLOWING THROUGH A GRENADA LAKE IS INCREASING THANKS TO THE U-S ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS. MAINTENANCE IS SCHEDULED ON THE GRENADA LAKE DAM...ON AUGUST 1ST THE CORPS BEGAN LOWERING THE DEPTH OF THE LAKE PLANNING TO GET IT DOWN BY 22-FEET TO FLOOD CONTROL LEVEL BY NOVEMBER 1ST. THE DAM IS DESIGNED TO HELP CONTROL THE RISK OF FLOODING THROUGHOUT THE YAZOO BASIN. BOATERS ARE WARNED TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR UNDERWATER OBSTACLES BECAUSE OF LOWER THAN NORMAL LAKE LEVELS. BOAT RAMPS AFFECTED INCLUDE BRYANT, GUMS CROSSING, NORTH ABUTMENT, NORTH GRAYSPORT, PINEY WOODS AND SKUNA-TURKEY.

 THE MISSISSIPPI SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS THE OPEN CARRY GUN LAW. THE HIGH COURT ALLOWING IT TO TAKE EFFECT AFTER A CIRCUIT JUDGE'S ORDER KEPT IT ON HOLD ABOUT TWO MONTHS. JUSTICES RULED UNANIMOUSLY THAT HINDS COUNTY CIRCUIT JUDGE WINSTON KIDD ERRED WHEN HE FOUND THE LAW VAGUE AND THEREFORE UNCONSTITUTIONAL. EARLIER THIS YEAR, LEGISLATORS PASSED AND GOV. PHIL BRYANT SIGNED HOUSE BILL 2, WHICH SAYS ADULTS DON'T NEED A PERMIT TO CARRY A GUN THAT'S NOT CONCEALED. SEVERAL OFFICIALS, INCLUDING THE HINDS COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY, SUED TO BLOCK THE LAW, AND KIDD PUT IT ON HOLD JUST BEFORE IT WAS TO TAKE EFFECT JULY 1. AFTER HEARING ARGUMENTS, KIDD ISSUED AN INJUNCTION JULY 12, SAYING THE LAW WAS ON HOLD UNTIL THE LEGISLATURE CAN CLARIFY IT. JUSTICES OVERTURNING THE INJUNCTION.

SHE HAS 17 YEARS EXPERIENCE WITH THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS. AND HAS WORKED IN MANY CAPACITIES SUCH AS, CASE MANAGEMENT, SECURITY --AS A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER AND SERGEANT, AND AS ALCOHOL AND DRUG COORDINATOR. STARKS OVERSEES 50 EMPLOYEES AND 380 OFFENDERS. Job Scam Alert

ATTORNEY GENERAL JIM HOOD IS WARNING CONSUMERS TO BE AWARE OF A WANTED CON-ARTIST CURRENTLY PERPETRATING AN EMPLOYMENT SCAM IN THE STATE. THE SCAM INVOLVES A COMPANY CALLED "WIPE OUT WINDOWS" AND RUN BY A SCAMMER NAMED BRANDON WILLIAMS WHO ALLEGEDLY FILED JOB ORDERS WITH WIN JOB CENTERS IN VICKSBURG, GREENWOOD AND FOREST. THE SCAM INVOLVES GENERAL LABORERS WHO WERE REFERRED BY WIN JOB CENTERS AND THEN REQUIRED TO PAY A FEE TO WILLIAMS FOR THOSE REFERRED JOBS. CLIENTS SHOWED UP FOR WORK AT WIN JOB CENTERS ONLY TO FIND THE JOBS WERE A SCAM. WILLIAMS CLAIMED TO BE NEEDING GENERAL LABORERS WHOM HE WOULD PAY $12.50 PER HOUR. Renova Murder

ONE WOMAN IS DEAD AND THE SHOOTER IN JAIL FOLLOWING A SHOOTING THIS MORNING JUST OUTSIDE THE TOWN OF RENOVA. 26-YEAR-OLD CALLIE WARE WAS SHOT AND KILLED IN THE MIDDLE OF DAISY STREET THIS MORNING. THE BOLIVAR COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT RECEIVED A CALL FROM 144 DAISY STREET AROUND 11:17 TODAY. 63-YEAR-OLD L. M. BIRGE HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR THE SHOOTING. WARE APPARENTLY GOT INTO AN ALTERCATION WITH SEVERAL OTHER FEMALES OUTSIDE HER DAISY STREET RESIDENCE. BIRGE, THE FATHER OF ONE OF THE WOMEN INVOLVED IN THE DISPUTE, CONFRONTED WARE AND THEN FATALLY SHOT HER WITH A SHOTGUN. BIRGE HAS NOT BEEN CHARGED YET AS WARE MAY HAVE BEEN PREGNANT AT THE TIME OF THE SHOOTING. BOLIVAR COUNTY SHERIFF KELVIN WILLIAMS SAYS BIRGE MAY BE FACING TWO COUNTS. WARE WAS THE MOTHER OF TWO CHILDREN. ONE CHILD WAS HOME AT THE TIME OF THE SHOOTING AND ONE WAS IN SCHOOL. THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING.
 

Greenwood Wanted Man

A GREENWOOD MAN WANTED FOR HOLDING AND ASSAULTING HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND AT KNIFEPOINT. THE HUNT IS ON FOR MELVIN JERMAINE JOHNSON WHO POLICE SAY FORCED HIS WAY INTO THE EX-GIRLFRIEND'S HOME LAST TUESDAY, HOLDING HER AND HER 3-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER AT KNIFE POINT. JOHNSON THEN PHYSICALLY ASSAULTING THE WOMAN CAUSING SEVERE INJURIES TO HER FACE AND BODY. JOHNSON WANTED ON TWO COUNTS OF KIDNAPPING, ONE COUNT OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE-AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, AND ANOTHER COUNT OF BURGLARY OF AN OCCUPIED DWELLING. Panola County School Shooting

Panola County authorities were expected to announce charges Monday in the shooting death of a teenager after a high school football game Friday night in Sardis. Sheriff Dennis Darby says 15-year-old Roderick Bobo of Sardis died at a local hospital after being shot in the chest. Two other people were wounded but the wounds were not life-threatening. Bobo was in the 10th grade at North Panola. Darby says the shooting came at the end of the home football game between North Panola and Rosa Fort between the North Panola High School building and the principal's residence near U.S. Highway 51. Darby says deputies interviewed dozens of witnesses to the shooting and looked at three surveillance videos from the school.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is helping with the case.

LAWRENCE REED WILL NOW STAND TRIAL FOR THE MURDER OF MARCO MCMILLIAN IN QUITMAN COUNTY AFTER A JUDGE SIGNS THE TRANSFERS OF PROSECUTION ORDER TUESDAY. A COAHOMA COUNTY INVESTIGATOR TESTIFYING DURING REED'S PRELIMINARY HEARING THAT REED TOLD HER HE KILLED MCMILLIAN SOMEWHERE IN QUITMAN COUNTY, THEN DROVE HIS BODY TO COAHOMA COUNTY. A GREENVILLE MAN BEHIND BARS AFTER POLICE SAY HE WAITED FOR CUSTOMERS TO LEAVE AN AREA ATM TO BURN OUT THEIR BANK ACCOUNTS. TONY WARFIELD ACCUSED OF ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS STANDING BY AND WATCHING CUSTOMERS ENTER THEIR PIN NUMBERS AT THE A-T-M AT THE REGIONS BACK ON HIGHWAY ONE SOUTH. GREENVILLE ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF ANDREW KAHO SAYS WARFIELD WAITED FOR CUSTOMERS TO DRIVE OFF BEFORE ANSWERING THE "DO YOU WANT ANOTHER TRANSACTION" OPTION. WARFIELD WOULD PROCEED WITH THE CUSTOMER'S ATM PIN MAKING ANOTHER TRANSACTION. THE INVESTIGATION BEGINNING BACK IN JULY AFTER REPORTS OF A SUSPICIOUS BLACK MALE STANDING AT THE ATM. WARFIELD'S CHARGED WITH TWO COUNTS OF GRAND LARCENY AND SEVEN COUNTS OF LARCENY.
 

Leland Woman Fraud

A LELAND TAX PREPARER GETS THREE YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR FRAUD. LYNISHA ROBINSON SENTENCED IN ABERDEEN WEDNESDAY AFTER PLEADING GUILTY BACK IN NOVEMBER. FEDERAL PROSECUTORS SAY ROBINSON, THE OWNER OF TWIN TAXES IN LELAND AND GREENVILLE, HELPED CUSTOMERS OBTAIN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REFUNDS BY FILING FALSE RETURNS WITH THE IRS FROM 2008 TO 2010. THE FALSE RETURNS RESULTING IN THE PAYMENT OF EARNED INCOME CREDIT BENEFITS WHICH NEITHER ROBINSON NOR THE FILERS WERE ENTITLED TO. ROBINSON ALSO HAVING TO PAY MORE THAN 112-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN RESTITUTION TO THE IRS. SHE BEGINS HER SENTENCE ON OCTOBER 14TH.

Gun Investigation

A bond revocation hearing is scheduled Wednesday for a man charge in a north Mississippi gun case.
William Wilbourn was indicted in December on a charge of being a convicted felon in possession of guns.
The indictment says Wilbourn had a shotgun and pistol on March 2012 in Senatobia. The bond revocation hearing is scheduled for Thursday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Oxford. His trial is scheduled for Oct. 15. He has pleaded not guilty.

Greenwood Police Chief

Greenwood Police Chief Henry Purnell says he will retire from the force in September. The Greenwood Commonwealth reports he made the announcement at Tuesday's meeting of the City Council. Purnell, who has been chief since Sept. 15, 2007 and on the force for 28 years. Council President Ronnie Stevenson praised Purnell, saying he operated the department with integrity. Purnell was hired in August 1985 and rose from patrolman to the department's upper echelon.

Greenville Statutory Rape Case

 PARENTS CATCH A GREENVILLE MAN IN THE BED WITH THEIR 15-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER.
POLICE ARRESTING CHAZZ NERO LAST NIGHT FOR STATUTORY RAPE. THE 22-YEAR-OLD IS ACCUSED OF HAVING A SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH A 15-YEAR-OLD. THE VICTIM'S PARENTS CATCHING NERO IN THE BED WITH THEIR CHILD BEFORE SIX TUESDAY NIGHT - DETAINING HIM UNTIL POLICE ARRIVED AT THEIR HOUSE. ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT, THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME NERO HAS HAD CONTACT WITH THE MINOR. IN MARCH, NERO WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED FOR STATUTORY RAPE - RECEIVING A 75-THOUSAND BOND. HE IS BEING HELD AT THE COUNTY JAIL.

TERRENCE BROCK IS EXPECTED IN FEDERAL COURT IN OXFORD FOR A CHANGE OF PLEA HEARING ON SEPTEMBER 16TH BEFORE US DISTRICT JUDGE NEAL BIGGERS. FEDERAL PROSECUTORS CHARGING BROCK WITH BEING A FELON IN POSSESSION OF A GUN - A 38 REVOLVER IN JANUARY 2012 IN SUNFLOWER COUNTY. THE INDICTMENT SHOWS BROCK HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN CONVICTED OF COCAINE POSSESSION AND ACCESSORY AFTER THE FACT TO BURGLARY. BROCK FACES NO MORE THAN TEN YEARS IN PRISON.

Cleveland Arson

ARSON IS SUSPECTED IN A DUPLEX FIRE IN CLEVELAND. THE BLAZE STARTED APPROXIMATELY 1:20 AM ON THE MORNING OF AUGUST 18TH. FIRE INSPECTOR GENE BISHOP TELLS US THE FIRE STARTED IN THE KITCHEN OF A VACANT SIDE OF A DUPLEX AND IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN SET INTENTIONALLY. THE FIRE WAS EASILY CONTAINED AND NO ONE WAS INJURED. SO FAR, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS NO SUSPECTS AND AN INVESTIGATION IS PENDING.

Hwy 82 Fatal

A FORKLIFT INVOLVED IN A SUNFLOWER COUNTY SUV ACCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE ACCIDENT INVOLVING A SUV AND A FORKLIFT HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY 82 OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS OF INDIANOLA MONDAY EVENING. MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS 58-YEAR-OLD CHARLIE JOHNSON OF INDIANOLA, THE FORKLIFT OPERATOR, DIED
AS A RESULT OF A COLLISION WITH AN SUV DRIVEN BY 22-YEAR-OLD EMMANUEL GERRORD. TROOPER TONY DUNN SAYS GERRORD AND JOHNSON WERE BOTH TRAVELING WESTBOUND WHEN GERRORD ATTEMPTED TO PASS THE FORKLIFT AS DID THE FORKLIFT INSTEAD GERRORD COLLIDING THE FRONT AREA OF HIS SUBURBAN WITH THE LEFT REAR OF THE FORKLIFT. AFTER IMPACT, THE FORKLIFT OVERTURNED KILLING JOHNSON. GERRORD TRANSPORTED TO DELTA REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER WITH MODERATE INJURIES. THE ACCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

Greenwood Police Chief Retiring

RETIREMENT COULD BE IN THE NEAR FUTURE FOR GREENWOOD'S TOP COP. GREENWOOD CHIEF OF POLICE HENRY PURNELL SAYS HE'S CONSIDERING RETIRING FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT. PURNELL COULD MAKE AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING HIS RETIREMENT IN TUESDAY'S CITY COUNCIL MEETING. PURNELL HAS BEEN IN LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR TWENTY PLUS YEARS. MANY CITY LEADERS CREDITS PURNELL FOR REDUCING CRIME NUMBERS IN GREENWOOD OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS.

Fraud Investigation

 An attorney wants to delay the trail of a woman charged with wire fraud and using another person's identity in Durant. Freda Hill was indicted on June 25 on charges that say she used a fraudulent power of attorney to take money from another person's bank account. Authorities say the scheme happened in late 2011. She pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court in Jackson on June 27. The trial is scheduled for trail the court term beginning Sept. 3. The lawyer, Omadare Jupiter, says in a court filing that he needs more time to prepare. Jupiter didn't immediately respond to a message Friday.

INDIANOLA'S FORMER POLICE CHIEF CHARLES BLOATY SMITH HAS DIED. OFFICIALS SAY ---- SMITH DIED SATURDAY AT DELTA REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER. UPON HEARING OF HIS PASSING, MAYOR STEVE ROSENTHAL ISSUED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT TO ABC SIX, "CHARLES BLOATY SMITH SERVED THE CITIZENS OF INDIANOLA AND SUNFLOWER COUNTY FOR OVER 25 YEARS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT. HE STARTED AS A PATROL OFFICER WITH THE INDIANOLA POLICE DEPARTMENT AND WORKED HIS WAY UP TO CHIEF WHEN HE RETIRED IN 2011. HE WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO GIVE OF HIS TIME AND EXPERTISE TO HELP INDIANOLA." A 24-YEAR OLD GREENWOOD MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER.JAMES MARSHALL POLICE SAY SHOT AND KILLED 28-YEAR OLD KENYA BENNETT AROUND 1-30 WEDNESDAY MORNING FOLLOWING A FIGHT AT A BARBEQUE IN THE 600 BLOCK OF PINE STREET, THE STREET BOTH MARSHALL AND BENNETT LIVED ON. THE 28-YEAR-OLD BENNETT FOUND DEAD IN AN S-U-V IN FRONT OF MARSHALL'S HOME, SHOT ONCE IN THE HEAD. MARSHALL REMAINS IN LEFLORE COUNTY JAIL ON A 100-THOUSAND DOLLAR BOND.

AN ARGUMENT OVER A GUN ENDS IN GUNFIRE IN CLEVELAND.CORDELL ROBINSON SITS INSIDE THE BOLIVAR COUNTY REGIONAL CORRECTIONAL FACILITY ON AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGES. CLEVELAND POLICE CHIEF BUSTER BINGHAM SAYS ROBINSON SHOT LAKENDRICK MC-CLINE. IN THE CHEST. THE GUNFIRE ERUPTING IN THE 200 BLOCK OF CROSS STREET BEFORE TWO THIS MORNING, WITH POLICE FINDING MC-CLINE AT THE BOLIVAR MEDICAL CENTER AFTER BEING TRANSPORTED BY PRIVATE VEHICLE. CHIEF BINGHAM SAYS OFFICERS THEN GOING TO ROBINSON'S HOME, REPORTEDLY FINDING CRACK COCAINE AND TWO GUNS. BINGHAM SAYS BOTH GUNS SENT TO THE CRIME LAB FOR BALLISTICS TESTS TO SEE IF EITHER WERE USED IN THIS MORNING'S SHOOTING. MC-CLINE SAID TO BE RECOVERING AT A JACKSON AREA HOSPITAL.

A NEW HUMAN CASE OF WEST NILE VIRUS. THE MISSISSIPPI STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TODAY REPORTING CASES IN LEFLORE COUNTY AS WELL AS MARION COUNTY, BRINGING THE STATE TOTAL FOR 20-13 TO A DOZEN CASES WITH ONE DEATH. HOWEVER THE STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT NOW DETERMINING TWO PREVIOUS CASES, INCLUDING ONE DEATH, WERE NOT CAUSED BY THE WEST NILE VIRUS. THESE RECORDED CASES WERE IN FOREST AND MONTGOMERY COUNTIES. DELTA COUNTIES REPORTING WEST NILE CASES SO FAR INCLUDE BOLIVAR, WASHINGTON AND LEFLORE.

THE LELAND BOARD OF ALDERMEN LETS THE CITY POLICE CHIEF GO TODAY AMONGST OTHER POLICE LAYOFFS IN A CONTINUING EFFORT TO TRIM A BUDGET DEFICIT. POLICE CHIEF SCOTT TARPLEY RELIEVED OF HIS DUTIES BY A VOTE OF THE ALDERMEN, WITH NO ONE APPOINTED AS A REPLACEMENT AT THIS TIME. AND LELAND MAYOR KENNY THOMAS CONFIRMS THE BOARD ALSO VOTING TO LAY OFF 5 OTHER POLICE OFFICERS. THOMAS SAYS THIS BUDGET TRIMMING MOVE SAVES THE CITY APPROXIMATELY 125-THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THE CITY'S 2014 FISCAL YEAR BUDGET. THOMAS ALSO SAYING THE CITY ONLY FACING A 400-THOUSAND DOLLAR DEFICIT, NOT THE ONE MILLION AS REPORTED ELSEWHERE. AND THE BOARD MEETING THIS MORNING ON BUDGET ISSUES, NOW HAVE THE DEFICIT DOWN TO ABOUT 25-THOUSAND.

ENTERGY MISSISSIPPI CUSTOMERS RATES WILL GO UP OVER THE NEXT NINE MONTHS AS THE COMPANY RECOUPS MORE FOR EXPENSES. THE MISSISSIPPI PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION TUESDAY APPROVING THE RATE INCREASE OF 2-DOLLARS AND 74 CENTS A MONTH FOR CUSTOMERS USING ONE THOUSAND KILOWATTS HOURS. IT'S THE THIRD RATE INCREASE IN A YEAR FOR ENTERGY MISSISSIPPI AFTER COMMISSIONERS IN DECEMBER APPROVING AN INCREASE TO COVER HIGHER NATURAL GAS COSTS AND THE PURCHASE OF A POWER PLANT. STATE AUDITOR STACEY PICKERING SAYS SCHOOL SYSTEMS ARE ROUTINELY VIOLATING STATE LAW THAT SAYS THEY HAVE TO ISSUE A TEXTBOOK TO EVERY STUDENT TO TAKE HOME.
SOME DISTRICTS ONLY HAVE BOOKS AVAILABLE IN THE CLASSROOM, WHICH MEANS A STUDENT CAN'T TAKE A BOOK HOME TO STUDY. A FEW MAY BE USING NO TEXTBOOKS AT ALL, INSTEAD RELYING ON STATE-ISSUED SAMPLE TESTS FOR THEIR ONLY INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL. FOR SOME DISTRICTS, THE PROBLEMS STEM FROM BAD RECORD-KEEPING OR LACK OF MONEY. BUT OTHER DISTRICTS SAY THAT IN MANY CLASSES, THEY'RE ABANDONING THE TRADITIONAL TEXTBOOK. FOR EXAMPLE, IN LOWER GRADES, DISTRICTS MAY PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A COLLECTION OF BOOKS TO LEARN READING, INSTEAD OF A TRADITIONAL READER. PICKERING SAYS HE WANTS TO MEET WITH SCHOOL LEADERS TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE CHANGES TO THE LAW.

A MISSISSIPPI FAMILY IS ASKING A FEDERAL APPEALS COURT TO REINSTATE THEIR MULTIMILLION DOLLAR WRONGFUL DEATH LAWSUIT AGAINST THE CITY OF CLEVELAND AND TWO POLICE OFFICERS. THE LAWSUIT WAS FILED BY THE FAMILY OF JERMAINE WILLIAMS, WHO DIED IN 2010 AFTER BEING JOLTED TWICE BY POLICE STUN GUNS. THE FAMILY SOUGHT $25 MILLION IN DAMAGES. U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE SHARION AYCOCK IN NORTH MISSISSIPPI DISMISSED THE LAWSUIT IN 2012, RULING THAT THE OFFICERS' CONDUCT DID NOT RISE TO THE LEVEL OF RECKLESS DISREGARD. SHE ALSO DISMISSED THE FAMILY'S PRODUCT LIABILITY CLAIM AGAINST THE STUN GUN MANUFACTURER. THE 5TH U.S. CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS IN NEW ORLEANS HAS SCHEDULED THE CASE FOR ORAL ARGUMENTS ON SEPT. 4.

Ruleville Hostage

A POTENTIAL HOSTAGE SITUATION IN SUNFLOWER COUNTY IS UNDER INVESTIGATION THIS AFTERNOON AFTER A JACKSON COUNTY INMATE BREAKS INTO HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND'S APARTMENT. ANDRE RICH SITS INSIDE THE SUNFLOWER COUNTY JAIL AFTER ALLEGEDLY HOLDING HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND HOSTAGE INSIDE HER RULEVILLE APARTMENT THEN JUMPING TWO STORIES FROM A BEDROOM WINDOW TO ELUDE AUTHORITIES. POLICE AND SHERIFF INVESTIGATORS WERE ALERTED TO THE VILLAGE APARTMENTS ON SUNFLOWER AVENUE BEFORE NINE ABOUT THE POTENTIAL HOSTAGE SITUATION. THE WOMAN TELLS ABC SIX RICH BROKE INTO HER APARTMENT THIS MORNING BUT THE QUICK THINKING WOMAN WAS ABLE TO ALERT AUTHORITIES WITH THE HELP OF HER CHILDREN. SHERIFF JAMES HAYWOOD SAYS RICH WAS AT THE RESTITUTION CENTER IN JACKSON COUNTY WHEN HE WALKED AWAY FROM
THE WORK SITE SOMETIME FRIDAY. RICH IS SET TO BE TRANSFERRED BACK INTO THE CUSTODY OF THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS WHERE HE POSSIBLY FACES KIDNAPPING AND MALICIOUS MISCHIEF CHARGES.

TWO PEOPLE ARE DEAD AFTER A COLLISION IN WASHINGTON COUNTY. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENING BEFORE ELEVEN ON HIGHWAY 438 NEAR ARCOLA BEFORE ELEVEN THIS MORNING. MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY PATROL PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER TONY DUNN SAYS DAVID KIRKMAN OF MABEN MISSISSIPPI ATTEMPTED TO PASS A WESTBOUND 1988 FORD F-350 DUMP TRUCK DRIVEN BY 23 YEAR OLD LEO FIELDS OF GREENVILLE - INSTEAD KIRKMAN CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF FIELD'S DUMP TRUCK AS IT WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT INTO A PRIVATE DRIVEWAY. FIELD'S 2 YEAR OLD SON DIED AFTER BEING EJECTED FROM THE DUMP TRUCK. KIRKMAN ALSO DIED AT THE SCENE. DUNN SAYS LEO FIELDS AND HIS FATHER, JAMES WERE TRANSPORTED TO DRMC. THE ACCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

Pool Fatal

A GREENWOOD MAN DIES AFTER FALLING INTO A JACKSON HOTEL POOL. JACKSON POLICE SAID BEN JOHNSON OF GREENWOOD WAS POOLSIDE WITH HIS FAMILY WHEN SOMEHOW HE FELL INTO THE POOL. THE INCIDENT HAPPENING ABOUT TEN PM FRIDAY AT THE MARRIOTT ON AMITE STREET IN DOWNTOWN JACKSON. HE WAS TAKEN TO BAPTIST MEDICAL CENTER WHERE HE LATER DIED. THE CORONER SAID THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR TRAUMA TO JOHNSON'S BODY. NO FOUL PLAY IS SUSPECTED. HOWEVER, AN AUTOPSY IS EXPECTED FOR TODAY.

POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IS THE CHARGE LEVIED AGAINST A WATER VALLEY MAN. ATTORNEY GENERAL JIM HOOD ANNOUNCING THE WEDNESDAY ARREST OF BILLY COBB BY INVESTIGATORS WITH HIS CYBER CRIME DIVISION WITH ASSISTANCE FROM THE YALOBUSHA SHERIFF'S OFFICE. HE HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH ONE COUNT OF POSSESSION OF CHILD PORN. COBB IS CURRENTLY BEING HELD IN THE YALOBUSHA COUNTY JAIL AWAITING AN INITIAL APPEARANCE. IF CONVICTED HE FACES UP TO 40 YEARS IN PRISON.

THE CITY OF HOLLANDALE NOW NAMING A NEW POLICE CHIEF. THIS WEEK THE BOARD OF ALDERMAN OFFICIALLY NAMED JOHN DELANEY CHIEF OF THE HOLLANDALE POLICE DEPARTMENT. ACCORDING TO CHIEF DELANEY THE DECISION WAS MADE IN A BOARD MEETING LAST NIGHT. THIS AFTER THE BOARD OF ALDERMAN VOTED THE VETERAN INTO POSITION. DELANEY TELLS US HE HAS WORKED WITH THE HOLLANDALE P-D FOR THE PAST EIGHT YEARS. HE'S SUCCEEDING FORMER CHIEF CHARLES PATTERSON WHO WAS FIRED BACK IN JULY.

Indianola Shooting

INDIANOLA POLICE RESPOND TO ANOTHER SHOOTING. A QUIET DAY COMPARED TO THE GUNFIRE ERUPTING SHORTLY BEFORE TEN IN THE 500 BLOCK OF HOUGH AVENUE LAST NIGHT. POLICE SAY A GROUP OF PEOPLE WERE SITTING ON THEIR FRONT PORCH WHEN SEVERAL INDIVIDUALS WALKED UP AND BEGAN SHOOTING AT THEM. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED BY THE FLYING BULLETS BUT SEVERAL OF THEM HITTING THE SIDE OF THIS BRICK HOUSE. THE SHOOTERS ALSO REPORTEDLY BREAKING OUT SEVERAL CAR WINDOWS. RIGHT NOW POLICE DO NOT KNOW THE IDENTITIES OF THE PERSONS INVOLVED BUT BELIEVE THIS LATEST SHOOTING IS CONNECTED TO MONDAY'S STABBING OF TOMMY ELLIS. RESIDENTS IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD ARE QUITE SHAKEN UP BY THE RECENT RASH OF VIOLENCE.

THIS YEAR OF WEST NILE VIRUS. THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TODAY CONFIRMING THE SECOND DEATH OF THE YEAR, ALONG WITH FOUR NEW HUMAN CASES. THE NEW REPORTED CASES OCCURRING IN FORREST, HINDS AND RANKIN COUNTIES. THESE NEW REPORTED CASES BRING THE STATE TOTAL FOR 2013 TO 12 CASES, WITH TWO DEATHS. SO FAR THIS YEAR, CASES HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN FORREST, LINCOLN, LOWNDES, MADISON, MONTGOMERY, WAYNE, LEFLORE, BOLIVAR, HINDS AND RANKIN COUNTIES.

A WOMAN IS SHOT IN THE MOUTH ... NOW CLARKSDALE POLICE LAUNCHES AN INVESTIGATION TO FIND OUT WHOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OVERNIGHT DRIVE-BY. ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF ROBBIE LINLEY TELLS US AROUND 1:30 THIS MORNING SEVERAL PEOPLE WERE STANDING OUTSIDE AT A PARTY. HE SAYS SHORTLY AFTER SHOTS BROKE OUT IN THE ONE-THOUSAND BLOCK OF SOUTH STATE STREET. THE VICTIM WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND LINLEY SAYS SHE'S IN STABLE CONDITION. THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION RELEASES GRANT INFORMATION FOR THE CITY OF GREENVILLE AS PART OF THE FEDERAL AIRPORT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM. ALMOST 520-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN TOTAL FUNDING AWARDED THROUGH THE FAA MODERNIZATION AND REFORM ACT TO INSTALL RUNWAY VERTICAL-VISUAL GUIDANCE SYSTEMS, TO REHABILITATE THE RUNWAY, AND INSTALLATION OF MARKINGS ON TAXIWAYS A, B, C, AND D. THE NEW MARKINGS WILL ENHANCE THE SAFETY AND OPERATIONS AT THE AIRPORT BY IMPROVING THE VISIBILITY OF THE TAXIWAY TO PILOTS.
