Rachel Elvis is the news anchor for
Good Morning Mississippi, and she enjoys waking up with the Delta and
helping to get their day off to a great start! She came to WABG in 2003
as a weather intern. She joined the staff in 2005 as weekend weather
anchor and field reporter. In 2006, she expanded to fill-in anchor and
producer. In 2007 she became the co-host of Good Morning Mississippi
along with weather anchor Ryan Evans.
A native of Mobile, Alabama, that is where Rachel
first began her career in broadcasting...in the fourth grade! She was a
reporter for WKRG's Small Fry News. She went on to graduate from
Mississippi Delta Community College and trained for broadcasting at
Mississippi Valley State University. In addition to her news work, she
is a graduate of Delta State University with a Bachelor of Science in
Nursing.
Rachel hopes to incorporate her nursing education
into health reporting. She is currently a spokesperson for Buddy Check 6
sponsored by Northwest Regional Medical Center. Each month, around the
sixth of the month, Buddy Check 6 encourages viewers to have a buddy and
remind their buddies to do monthly self breast exams.
She and her husband Jerry are enjoying their 20th
year of marriage, and they have two sons, Ashton 15, and Taylor 12.
Jerry and Rachel recently founded The Way Church in Greenville, and they
are currently working with their team to broaden the outreach to the
community.
