Eminent domain
The Eminent Domain Petition, also called Initiative 31, will go on the 2011
general election ballot according to Secretary of State Delbert Horsemann.

Petitioners were required to gather a minimum of 89-thousand, 285 certified
signatures, with at least 17-thousand, 857 certified signatures from each of
the five congressional districts as they existed in the year 2000. Hosemann
says his office has verified that petitioners gathered signatures from more
then 119-thousand registered voters.

The Eminent Domain petition seeks to amend the State Constitution to
prohibit state and local governments from taking private property by eminent
domain and then conveying it to other persons or private businesses for a
period of ten years after acquisition.
